The successful Slovenian alpine skier Meta Hrovat, also an ambassador of the Kranjska Gora Team, is Vitranc' neighbour from Podkoren.
She tells us , they have known each other well since her childhood. She has twice stood on the podium of the World Cup under the Polygon racecourse in Podkoren - at the ladies' Golden Fox World Cup race.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Vitranc Cup, Meta wrote:
"For me, the Vitranc Cup is one of the best races on the World Cup calendar, because I have somehow been a part of that story all my life and I am personally strongly attached to this competition. From my early age, I have admired skiers who competed in World Cup competitions under Mt. Vitranc, and perhaps this also triggered my desire to compete in skiing at the highest level. From initially just watching, I later got the possibility of being a furerunner at the competitions. Thats when I could feel the pulse of the race itself even more and also started to get a clear idea of how top-ranked skiing competitions actually run. All these memories represent the Vitranc Cup for me ... I wish that in the coming years, the organizers will continue preparing the Vitranc Cup competitions so wholeheartedly. So I'm not really worried that the competition would lose its genuine charm, which is appreciated by competitors and spectators from all over the ski world."
